short of the glory of God!

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

This verse has been used endless times by Christians in the presenting the gospel message to unbelievers using the "Roman Road" method.

We always put the emphasis on 'all have sinned,' and rightly so in trying to persuade the person that no one is without need for believing on Jesus as their Saviour.

But I have some questions and would like the input of all who happen to read this.

1) What is the glory of God in regards to us His creation?
2) If we had not of sinned what would we be like if we hadn't fallen short?
3) Does our falling short imply that there is some of God's glory still there within us whether we are born again or not?

This is just something that has been on my mind today.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. You have certainly raised some thought-provoking questions here.

1. I have always taken the "glory of God" in Romans 3:23 to be referring to the righteous perfection of Jesus Christ. In the context of the book of Romans, we are told that the righteousness of Christ is imputed to us at salvation, thus justifying us before God. This is the short answer, but I believe it comes down to that.

2. In that Christ is called the "second Adam", I believe that had Adam and Eve not sinned, they would have retained the status of righteousness in which they were created.

3. Because man is created in the image of God, I believe he does have a limited measure of the glory of God. This is nothing that man is capable of producing, but is the indelible stamp of the Creator upon His crown jewel of creation.

These are certainly some questions worth thinking about.

1.) "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." Ps. 139:14

2.) We would do the will of God.

3.) God hates iniquity but loves us while we are yet in our sin. Is the glory there? I say yes but we cannot reflect it for there is no light within us.

I'm still thinking. Good post! ;-)

Thanks guys for your comments.
I am still unsure about the 1st and 3rd questions myself. I guess I am looking for something else. I agree with these answers but I still think there is a better answer although I don't know what it is yet.

I think the part of the answer to the 2nd question is that; we would not be self-conscious in how we think about ourselves and how others perceive us. I believe adam & eve were only conscious of God, each other and their surroundings. Kind of like a child is not self-conscious about his actions. When we "grow" out of this then being conscious of ourselves in front of others pretty well governs most of our actions does it not. If we were not self-conscious then I don't think temptations would be as big of an issue as it is now.

If we weren't self-conscious we wouldn't have to decide wether we are trusting God or living independent of Him. We would just be living. Self-consciousness apart from God is what drives us to protect ourself and drives us to get the approval of others no matter what the expense is to others and the environment around us.

I have more to say, I will say it in another post. I am headed to chicago.
